The HikeSafe program, and the Hiker Responsibility Code were developed by the NH Fish & Game, and USDA Forest Service, in an effort to reduce the need for rescue, or recovery efforts in the White Mountains. These principles are universal, and are the back bone of safe outdoor recreation. In this course we will review the 10 essential items you should have on any outing, and the hiker responsibility code, which should be followed to ensure the safest possible outcome. Participants are encouraged to bring their packs and essential items to share with the group. There is no one way to enjoy the outdoors, but there are always opportunities for us to improve our odds, of having safe & enjoyable outings.
Will Soter is a NYS DEC licensed Guide, Assistant Director of the Catskill Conservation Corps, and a Leave No Trace Master Educator.
The program is free and open to the public, but there is a $5 suggested donation. Refreshments and snacks are available for purchase at the gift shop.
