Pine Hill West Branch| Trail Crew Trip| 11/25|9:30-4:00

Pine Hill West Branch 7-8-17

Join The Catskill Conservation Corps, Trail Crew on November 25th as we perform seasonal maintenance on a section of the Pine Hill West Branch Trail. We will meet at the Biscuit Brook parking area at 9:30.

We ask that all volunteers dress appropriately for work on the trail. Sturdy footwear (hiking boots) are strongly recommended. Gloves and safety glasses are required. The crew will have some protective equipment available. However,  to ensure the best fit and performance it is suggested that you bring your own gloves, and glasses. Seasonal trail maintenance requires the use of hand saws, by-pass loppers, and other hand tools. You are welcome to bring your tools if you have some that you are comfortable using, or the Trail Crew will train you on the use of the tools we have.

Intro to Trail Maintenance Workshop|10/21|9:30-5:00

The Catskill Conservation Corps is leading an Intro to Trail Maintenance Workshop on the Phoenicia East Branch Trail. We will meet at Woodland Valley Campground in Phoenicia  at 09:30 on October 21st. The Workshop will review maintenance standards, and procedures for volunteer Trail Maintainers. The workshop is great for new volunteers, or for those who are looking to brush up on their skills, & knowledge of the process.

Tools and protective equipment will be available. However to ensure the best fit, and performance it is recommended that you bring your own safety glasses, and gloves. All volunteers should dress appropriately for the weather, and sturdy footwear should be worn. Be sure to pack lunch, snacks, and enough water for the day.

Join The Catskill Conservation Corps, Trail Crew on October 8th, as we perform seasonal maintenance on the Touch-Me-Not Trail. We will make arrangements to stage vehicles Alder Lake , prior to 9:30 when we will meet at the trail head on Beech Hill Rd.

We ask that all volunteers dress appropriately for work on the trail. Sturdy footwear (hiking boots) are strongly recommended. Gloves and safety glasses are required. The crew will have some protective equipment available. However,  to ensure the best fit and performance it is suggested that you bring your own gloves, and glasses. We will make arrangements to stage vehicles at Peck Rd, prior to 9:30 when we will meet at the Schutt Rd parking area outside of North South Lake Campground.

We ask that all volunteers dress appropriately for work on the trail. Sturdy footwear (hiking boots) are strongly recommended. Gloves and safety glasses are required. The crew will have some protective equipment available. However,  to ensure the best fit and performance it is suggested that you bring your own gloves, and glasses. Seasonal trail maintenance requires the use of hand saws, by-pass loppers, and other hand tools. You are welcome to bring your tools if you have some that you are comfortable using, or the Trail Crew will train you on the use of the tools we have.

The trip is held over the course of 2 days. There is an option to camp with the crew, or join for just one of the days. 2016 All Volunteer Appreciation Picnic! | Sunday, August 28th | 10 -4pm

DSCN0661The Catskill Conservation Corps, the New York-New Jersey Trail Conference and the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation invite all volunteers to join us at the 2016 All Volunteer Appreciation Picnic on Sunday August 28th from 10 to 4 at the Maurice D Hinchey Catskill Interpretive Center in Mt. Tremper, NY

This free event is open to all individuals and families who have volunteered in the Catskill Mountains region on trails, lean-tos, fire towers, and all other stewardship activities. Members of all volunteeer organizations and individuals who have volunteered directly with the NYSDEC are welcome to attend!

The BBQ will include hamburgers, hotdogs, grilled chicken, assorted salads, desert and much more!  Vegetarian options will be available.

You’ll also have an opportunity to tour and view the Catskill Interpretive Center, including walking the newest trail just opened at the CIC!

This event is free and open to everyone but please register below so we have a head count for food, please note if you have any special dietary needs.

The CCC takes a day off!

What does the Catskill Conservation Corps staff do on a day off? Hike in the Catskills, of course! On July 19, CCC Coordinator Heather Rolland explored the Escarpment Trail – all 23.9 glorious miles of it! And if you volunteer with the CCC, you could find yourself doing trail work or other projects in places as breath-taking as this.

What’s coming up?

There’s still a few slots left and time to register for the Trail Marking Clinic on Thursday July 23, on Ashokan High point. Learn to mark trails, do a little trail maintenance, and enjoy some amazing views! Email Heather at hrolland@nynjtc.org to sign up.

Sunset Rock, Escarpment Trail

On August 1, we’re back at it, with a trail maintenance event that was scheduled for Giant’s Ledge. Since that trail is in great shape, we’ll be pulling a switcheroo, finding a trail in need of our loving touch — details to be announced as soon as possible!

Planning your Labor Day weekend? So are we! There will be a CCC work trip for sure, so make you are in the Catskills to join the fun!
